Damion Cantrell

Born in Compton and raised in Carson, CA, Damion Cantrell could have never imagined this. The 30 year old retro-soul artist is weeks away from releasing his debut album, “Setting the Mood,” and is looking to expand his fan base. He has been fortunate enough to play at a number of venues around the Los Angeles area and has impressed many loyal fans with his high-energy live performances. Born into musical royalty (Damion’s great grandfather is the younger brother of John Mills, of the legendary Mills Brothers), he was exposed to the lifestyle at a very young age. He was taught songwriting at a very young age, spending time with his Uncle "Storm" aka Robert Daniels (Usher). Storm was taught the intricacies of the craft from Norman Whitfield (“Ain’t Too Proud to Beg”, “Poppa Was a Rolling Stone). This exposure to songwriting greatness has allowed Damion to pull from the past on his tracks, while also modernizing the formulas, forming a sound all his own. The melodies just come naturally to him, a skill that no aspiring artist can be taught. Damion’s voice is one you would have to hear to believe; there is no way to pigeonhole this newcomer. His musical influences span a wide variety of artists, making his songs both unique and appealing to fans of soul, R&B and hip hop. Damion’s electrifying vocal style is easy to the ears, and even more impressive is that he has mastered the art of singing in falsetto, with a range not seen in many artists. His good looks, romantic lyrical content and beautiful melodies have made him a favorite of female fans throughout Southern California.
